Bezoars are gastrointestinal stones of animal origin formed when indigestible material such as hair or fiber is calcified in the digestive tract.  Bezoar is derived from the Persian word for antidote, and was valued for its curative properties throughout the ancient world.  Knowledge of the bezoar came to Europe from the East where it was used in Arabic and Chinese medicine to treat various ailments but was particularly valued as a universal antidote.

During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, bezoars were covered for their mystical healing properties and were prized curiosities.  Their apotropaic properties blended medicine and magic and were believed to protect against poison universally.  This was disproved in the 16th century however there is some modern evidence of their effectiveness as an antidote for arsenic.

These bezoar rings were created as protective charms against occult poisons, miasma and the evil eye warning the wearer against hidden dangers.  Each ring is unique and every bezoar has its own imperfections.  The 0925 sterling silver rings are adjustable and the bezoars are coated in resin to protect them.

Sold as a curiosity.
